Wouldn't that have made her move an awful lot faster?

I'm still sticking by the 'subliminal message stuck on the other side of the building' theory. I bet all sorts of people were stopping before they let us see out of the window!

And you know how you walk along the streets in a trance, thinking about other stuff most of the time... it would be dead easy to subliminally suggest that you stop fifteen paces or so from the other side of the building! Very Happy

Maybe she was on a fishing rod, and spun round as someone pulled in the line. Did we see her move her feet? Huh? Huh?

I think I have to concur with CCC on this one. I think it was definately some kind of polarity reversed Fisher Price fanny magnet.

Or maybe they hired a big gay bear to grab her bum on the way passed.

The woman has a target painted on her hat. This would seem to corroborate my blisteringly well-thought-through glass spear theory. The only niggling problem is how they disposed of the corpse. Or maybe prompt brain surgery allowed her to continue living an almost normal life...

Long distance labotomy. You could order one by phone and get it sent to you by express delivery.

Aha, but he doesn't rule out string.

String. Ingenius cats' cradle trap fashioned from piano wire. Chewing gum or industrial strength glue on the pavement. Big portable fan at one end of street; powerful vacuum cleaner at the other end. Cobwebs which are edited out of shot afterwards. Hidden man with placard saying "BEWARE OF THE LANDMINES!". Really strong horseshoe magnets. Sheet of clingfilm stretched across street. Tempting cake shop display. Quick drying cement. Poster advertising an incredible "Buy One, Get One Free" cardigan offer in TopShop. Elasticated String. I've run out of ideas. Aid from the Queen of the Air Elementals in exchange for a human sacrifice. Muscle relaxing stun gun. Bad Feng Shui. Massive Botox injection administered through the sole of the foot. The woman was in fact a narcoleptic. Men in balaclavas hiding down the drains who grab her feet as she passes. The window through which we see the red hat woman is in fact a flat screen TV, which is voice sensitive and set to freeze. Oh, I don't care anymore. Is there any possibility I haven't covered in that list?

Love it! Very Happy

I had to make a strong horseshoe magnet once. I superglued it to my finger. It wasn't good.

Of course she was an actress or a hypnotised stooge. You can't make someone turn around like that using suggestion. And Derren doesn't believe in magic etc.

He really fucked up in my opinion. Anyone with an brains now knows he lies.

Is it called hidden mics? Sorry to be sceptical (well actually I'm not) but there is no way to influence someone through a window, 50 feet away, that doesn't involve some amount of collaboration.)

I think that the reason the first person chosen did not stop, was because she wasn't the informed one. Also, it would look a bit too set up if the first person chosen worked! (as if by magic)

... So after a delay the planted actress walks along, wearing a hat you can't fail to notice down a quiet street, and of course is picked out. Maybe a mic hidden on Derren and one on the red hat woman explain the rest...

maybe... Confused

Or may be we are all looking at it from the wrong angle. What we believed to be happening could be something else all together. May be the people involved were playing games with Derren, the same as he plays games with us but the games don't tally.

I think we are trying to analyse it from the wrong perspective: we are too involved with the game Derren is playing with us.

I am becoming less and less coherent with every word I mutter!

Sorry, lol but I must have read that post five times over now and I'm still not getting it...

explain!

What someone said above about having been influenced by a poster or something beforehand is clever. That could help explain things, as I think that the first woman to be "chosen" actually came from the left? (i.e. she didnt come under the bridge but from another direction), where the second obviously did, so could have seen different things on the approach. I'm not sure though, don't trust my memory!

...they shot her with a pea shooter (or similar)...thats why someone with a hat was chosen!! ...well, you can't feel the pea so easily, so she'd have turned around to see what touched her...but obviously unable to see the shooter and not wanting to look like a crazy person infront of a group of people with a camera stuck in her face she said "oh yeah, i....er....thought i'd forgotten something....heh"

I'm sure whenever Derren performs something he is performing to the audience but also for the person involved in the effect. Therefore the two groups think the effect he has achieved is good, but both have different views on WHAT the actual effect was.

I'm finding it really hard to explain without an example!

I'm sure the same can be applied to the "What chat-up line do you want me to say?" effect. Could be very wrong, though.

I am I aloud to say this? I've tried to keep it as vague as possible but I still haven't got a clue what I'm on about myself!

That's a really clever interpretation, TP. It's set me a-thinking.

It would certainly be a legitimate, illusionistic way of deceiving the audience.

A few nice ones on the DVD. Put yourself in their shoes, or their skimpy little cossies, or their evening wear and you'll see.
