Was the woman in the red hat an ACTRESS?
No. Bog standard member of the Public
RADA graduate. Will probably appear on The Archers next year!

i have to admit i was suspicious about this too. i thought her reaction was odd. if someone with a camera crew had stopped me in the street and asked such an odd question i'd at least ask who they were. is it possible that she was picked off the street too, influenced by derren then sent out for a walk? it might explain how comfortable she was with answering odd questions posed by a camera crew on the street.

I don't think she was an actress - I think I have an idea of how it was done (only an idea, and just a bit of one at that), but I think explaining it goes into exposure territory. Watch it again and listen to what she actually says.

Haiving the camera crew rush out like that was very weird though lacked the subtlety I expect from Mr Brown. Imagine if there had been crews rushing up to people in Oxford Street (Regent Street, can't remember) asking them why they didn't see a wallet? Eeech.

Oh come on, do tell, you tease. Miaowwwwy-owwy!

Nope. There's no explanation for this trick. You CAN'T INFLUENCE SOMEONE FROM THIRTY FEET AWAY. Although I believe Crowley believed he could do back magic. As in magic round behind your back, and that.

Nope. This trick is his undoing. It's a direct use of either psychic of stoogic powers.

I won't listen. Nope, shut up. LAH-LA LAHH-LA LAH LAH!

i agree. perhaps a scrooge was used. the woman seems really annoyed but it was more fake acted annoyance the type you'd do when you say you can't go out with someone because you've got out of a "serious relationship" but really hes a fat shit who's a complete prat that you'd never go out with in a million years! as for the hat -twas slightly dodgy- when it was filmed could anyone guess if the weather was cold? and it was pulled down over her ears. suspicious.... when derren was on the live webchat on channel 4 and someone asked him how it was done he said it was that long ago that he couldn't remember and sort of dismissed it. whats he hiding?.........

The lady said she'd suddenly remembered something she'd forgotten. So maybe Derren caught her in advance and did something similar to the Tube trick on her. Then he found some remote way of tapping her on the forehead to get her to remember on cue...

I dunno. All seems terribly difficult to me. If the above is true, I bet he had to do hundreds of trial runs. Because not all people stop dead in their tracks when they remember stuff. Or maybe it's been proven people in red hats are more prone to this than others, and he was taking an educated chance

She also had the red hat on to hide the tin foil one underneath.

Maybe I'm a little late, but I hatched my own theory after it was shown.

Derren shows that he can cause someone to stop without looking at them and without them looking at him(the second time with the woman in the room), right? So theoretically, he could allow them to meander down the street and stop them from there. So he could have either;

a) Did this, making it look as though the woman in the room stopped her
b) "Transfered" his power to the woman in the room so that she was able to do it (think Be A Mindreader for 10p)

I could be completely off. Still, I'd like to believe that Derren didn't use a stooge. I'm just not sure whether I do.

The woman in the red hat was an interesting one and I'm not quite sure how he did it but I find it really strange that I can put something in the microwave and 4 out of 5 times I entre the kitchen just as the bell rings. I do this without ever looking at a clock or watch. Strange.

Similarly, if you really, urgently need to get up at a particular time in the morning, you always seem to wake up a few seconds before your alarm goes off. Could this be a clue to how the trick was done? Hmmm.

It doesn't matter if I urgently need to get up or not, if my alarm is set and I know the time I will always wake up just a few seconds before.

Could it be something along the lines of: "In ten minutes time, you will stop dead in your tracks." Like the mental equivalent of a time bomb.

But then again, he allowed the woman at the window to dictate when she wanted the red hat lady to stop. I suppose he could have - in reality - subtly prompted her at the right moment, with maybe a gentle touch of the shoulder...

I'm not going to say anything further on this subject as it could (and probably already has) gone into the realms of ME. I probably shouldn't have said anything but I have resisted for so long with this thread - I just don't like the idea of stooges.

It's fair to say that I have my own take on many of his effects but there is no telling if I may be near, or, more likely, completly far off.

On reflection, I ended up ditching the 'stooge' view. I think he was unfortunate in his choice of person. She just happened to come across as very stilted when vox-popped.

Good God this forum is like a time warp. I think the lady in red wasn't an actress but we're supposed to think she is. Although I'm not sure why. Or maybe she is, we're meant to realise it's a double bluff so then think she isn't but really she is?

Perhaps this isnt the best time to admit that although I recorded the last two episodes of TOTM I havent paid them too much attention and only vaguely remember what you are all on about?

No, thought not.
