I think it would be funny (in a vaguely nasty way) to engineer a conversation between two people... then later convince one of them that the other had been dead for ages ... especially if you then got the two of them to meet again.

I can cross the most haunted 'best of' dvd off my christmas list then! You actually make it sound a lot more entertaining than Derek Opera does in 'the psychic adventures of' (what a silly title for a book!).

As for David Blame. He hides in a box. And won't speak to Eamonn Holmes. Is there really anything else to know?

Here's a hypothetical performance question TC...

what if Tippytoes were to skid on stage - engage in back-up slipped on stage ballet move but failed and landed on bum thus breaking hypno-trance of volunteer waiting patiently blindfolded on other side of stage?
what then?

That is an interesting question Janus, and I would expect no less of you!

My initial response would be thus:

If the happy-hypno-trance is suddenly shattered as a result of a particularly dramatic fall I suspect this would result in severe mental scarring most readily apparant in a fear of the dark - and things that go bump in the night.

Although you mention that the volunteer is both blindfolded and patient. This helps. Also they are on the other side of the stage. This means they wouldn't see the slip or the failed balletic recovery from the slip. To me this suggests that the hypno-trance is being perpetuated by tippytoes speaking to the volunteer, therefore if the goatee'd one remains composed enough to continue talking then the trance may be interrupted momentarily but not broken. And I'm sure it would take more that a slip, fall or broken limb to stop him talking.

quite so TC, quite so..........However! if TT were to encounter a shortness of breath brought on by the ferocity of a rather slitherly and all too awkward fall, then this might result in a temporary loss of speech thus suspending the hypno-trance and plunging the hapless and temporarily sightless victim into a state of almost dizzying confusion, which would then require the immediate (or very soon after) interception by a stand-in TippyToed one, who would attempt to save the poor unfortunate volunteer from almost certain stagefright.

and have you even considered the ramifications of having a stand-in TT on stage at the same time as Tippytoes himself and the possible state of flux this overload of Hypnosisis could bring about?

I'd like to see Derren attempt to convince someone they were dead, it would be interesting to see if their pulse and heart rate actually slowed because of the suggestion he was concentrating on them.

Abs if they slow down that would indicate they are really relaxed, not the subconscious working to kill the body.I don't think the subconscious has the ability to slow down vital bodily processes such as the heart rate to contribute to the mental subconscious belief that you are dead.If it is physically impossible to hold your own breath long enough to kill,I know that is will and not subconscious belief, but still the body will not allow you to kill yourself in this way.

TT and a stand in TT? Shocked Is that like Christ and Anti-Christ or Pope and Anti-Pope?

I will confess I had never considered the results of having Derren and a Derren-a-like in the same place at the same time, I'm not sure quite what would happen but it's probably quantum.

As a small mercy at least the volunteer is still blindfolded so wouldn't have to deal with the sight of TT and TT MkII sharing the same stage the effects of which could be enough to convince them they just died and are now inhabiting some very wierd hellish plane of existence.

K so like we're talkin' doppelgangerism induced death illiusion, of sorts? yeh? so then, by this process, TippyT's could convince someone they were dead and in a kind of psychic purgatory, the result of which could would be both terrifying and strangely tingly as the same time, or space time even, with me?

Of course I'm with you - and feeling strangely tingly at the same time.

A very neat summary of the situation that I'm guessing would follow. Quite what entertainingly evil tricks could be played on the volunteer whilst they were in such a state I'll need to think about.

Not if the pulse was slowed by a much greater amount than relaxation would indicate. He did something similar in the show earlier this year where his pulse was consistently taken until it had slowed by a considerable amount.

Good point, he'd just have to look at them and they'd believe anything. Goodness me, we had an intellectual debate....I feel quite dizzy now.

Stopping your pulse is very, very easy to do, and if you're sitting close enough to the front (and know what you're looking for) you'll see how he did it.

I'm still thinking about the 'Nightmare' trick. Talk about fun! Just imagine, someone goes to sleep, you wake them up and walk them through a nightmare that you've planned and engineered for them, then get them back to bed and back to sleep. They wake up thinking the whole thing was a proper nightmare, and you're totally off the hook!

I'll have to try that out with a few people, it's good in the way that you can get one over on them without their knowledge.

Genius.

And don't forget to create the déja vu the next day. Ooh, and if possible, wake three people up who don't know each other, and take them through the same 'dream' scenario together. Then the next morning, make sure they all see each other. It'd be dead creepy... Twisted Evil
