I quiver just looking at pics of him with his arms folded. I must be mad going to his show.If he looks in my direction I'll probably pass out or something.

His hands were probably cold when those pics were taken, that's all. Wink

I never considered that he came across as being scary.

Evil, perhaps. But not scary.

Here you go, I scanned a nice, boyish one for you!

I have to admit that, after seeing him in the zombie make-up, I was scared of him too (I have an irrational fear of zombies sparked by a computer game I once played as a teenager). In fact, when I saw him in the advert for the next show (after the zombie game one), I burst into tears and had to turn it off. *embarrassed* It took about an hour and a half of MSN therapy with Dr. Sang and a kick-ass anchor technique to get me back to my normal self!

It's okay - I feel kind of daft admitting it because it sounds so silly! But I haven't even seen 'Shaun of the Dead' for gawd's sake... Embarassed

It could be worse than mentioning the z word.I had no clue of Spasms fear of that and messaged her with a PM and the topic title of PM was "zombies".

*finally has lived up to evil status*

Oh Spasm, I hadn't realised you'd had such a strong reaction to it - sorry for bringing it up. Embarassed

I got past my fear of spiders (which I never, ever thought vcould happen) but I do still have a fear of dentists... from something that happened as a kid. The last time I had to go I walked into the room and burst into tears. Sooooo embarrasing. Then the dentist started singing Elvis songs (Presley not Costello Rolling Eyes ). It was a little surreal at that point.

Heh, no - it would have been evil if you'd known!

And an Elvis-crooning dentist, wow!

So where were we? Oh, souls in jars. I wonder what would happen if the person who was convinced that their soul was being held in Derren's paws saw him suddenly throw the jar to the ground and smash it?

Yeah I guess so.Then the fact that I feel bad about it now again and feel the need to applogise might ruin the evilness somewhat.

Yup! So what's the general concensus? Is it possible to convince someone that they're actually dead, even though they're obviously still walking around? Or would it cause a dichotomy in their little heads and make them go a bit doolally?

I'm not sure, but I would love to see it! Twisted Evil (Preferably not as the person whose soul just got trapped in a jar which was then smasehd).

They could play dead - if they think their soul has been destroyed. They could play evil if they think they no longer have a soul. They could think 'that's alright then, my soul got trapped in a jar but now it's got out again.' I guess it would depend on how it was set-up, what consequences DVB had hinted at before smashing the jar.

I think it would be possible in a stage hypnosis sense... but that's it.

Meh, that's not the same... Wink

I have to say, the soul thing would be great if Derren could actually convince the people to part with their souls voluntarily. Unless of course they're forum members. Then it might be:
Derren: 'You will want to give me your soul.'
Forum Member: (bouncing around) 'Okay!'

It might have the potential to create some 'out of body' effects... with the person describing the room as if they've just floated up to the ceiling, whilst we can see them still firmly on the floor, reminiscent of the of the (not so) bendy forks.

*has a stroky-beard moment*

Ooh yes...

He could also put the soul jars in unusual places and then get the person to describe what he sees, a bit like 'remote viewing' but...well...a trick.

Wink

Very Happy

I have this very strange image in my head today of DB shoving a vacuum cleaner nozzle into an ornate glass jar and flicking the 'on' switch...

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

*composes self*

so.....death......

i think that if it's a case of pretending you have extracted someone's soul and placed it in a jar then you could probably get the freak-out type results as seen with the voodoo doll, as it's the same sort of thing, as Spasm said about the photograph scissors thing, it's placing faith or investing a part of yourself into an object.....

If you make someone believe that their pulse has stopped but they are standing/walking talking etc i suppose it's hard to equate that with being dead

in the ......z.....game did the guy who got "sucked into the game" really believe the z's were dead?

we have seen various hypnosis acts where the subject has believed they are invisible and Mr B has also made himself "invisible"

But what do we class death as? All of these things? None of these things? Will it vary from person to person?
