And how about doing it at Aldwych Station - it has a disused platform...

Oh no... by all means do the ghostly apparition thing in a public place to start with... Perhaps in the pedestrian tunnels around South Kensington station... I find those spooky rather than menacing (the tunnels under Park Lane around the Marble Arch area are menacing, for example).

So yes, perhaps your apparition could appear at several points along the route... almost like it is leading the victim. That way you've got scope for public reactions. From Kensington Gore down into the tunnels... from the ticket hall to the platform... And then on to somewhere secluded and spooky, like Aldwych, where you can finish him off in privacy. So to speak.

You'd have to get your victim to change from the District line on to a Central Line train in order to be able to get him on to the branch line from Holborn though. But that's just logistics. It's simple enough to get someone to follow a particular route.

The Aldwych platform is actually adjacent to the Piccadilly Line at Holborn. I used to use it, many years ago. It's actually easier to move from the District Line to the Piccadilly Line than it is to go to the Central Line, but in fact, Aldwych station is really quite close to Temple. It's easier to walk it, plus I'm not sure if the line from Holborn to Aldwych is safe.

Anyone remember 'Night Train', that show Richard O'Brien used to host? The links were filmed at Aldwych.

Surely it would be more practical to set it up somewhere along the circle/piccadilly line where the tunnels expand to fit several sets of tracks. All you need to do is get the train to stop, light the ghost and maybe short the carriage lights.

I'm not going to read all the pages so perhaps someone has already mentioned this, but actually a point that occurred to me during The Heist was- instead of holding up a security van and stealing, could Derren have made the four people kill?.

Surely if normally, morally, they would not even consider holding someone at gunpoint and stealing money, an action that would almost certainly have landed them in prison, but Derren manipulated them into doing it anyway, could the same be applied to murder?

He touched on it with the Milgram experiment. He showed that they could be instructed to administer harmful and what they had been told to be lethal shocks to someone, simply because they were being told to do it by someone in a more authoratative position.

I'm not saying that I would have liked to see this, I'm sure it would be horrible viewing, but how far could Derren take it?

xx

Noo no, I'm not saying that Derren should have made them kill, I'm just wondering whether he could have. Just a scary thought.

And the whole "you can't make someone do something they don't want to" is what has said about "hypnosis". Does that mean you think that's how Derren did the The Heist? If he wasn't using hypnosis (whether he says it exists or not) then would other methods allow him to manipulate to do something they didn't want to do? Surely that's what happened during the show. Those people thought that they were inflicting pain on someone with electric shocks. They didn't want to do it, but they did. Hmm?

Hmmm, I wonder if he could make someone else kill if he didn't suggest it directly? In the same way as The Heist? That way the person would think it was their own decision to stab someone through the heart with a pair of scissors... Twisted Evil

Do you think 'Derren made me do it'' should be a new plea you are able to enter in your defence?

Does anyone know of any case law existing where someone has claimed that they were hypnotised into doing something against their will?

But do you think courts may accept a plea of diminished responibility if you claimed you'd been hypnotised into doing something naughty?

ha ha........can see it now

Brigand: "Please your Honour, I wasn't myself"

Judge: "You have been a very very naughty boy"

Brigand: "But, you don't understand, I was under Hypnosis at the time"

Judge: "And now you're under arrest...there is no such thing as Hypnosis"

Brigand: "Please your Honour, may I approach the bench?"

Judge: "This is highly irregular, but I will allow it"

Brigand: (Standing in front of the Judge) "Look into my eyes, not around my eyes, but into my eyes" *whispers*

Judge: "This man is innocent, set him free, set him free at once I say"

Could Derren use his persuasive/manipulative skills to actually convince someone that they were dead? And what would happen?

Hello Spasm,
Going off topic (apologies in advance) but...your post reminded me a dream I had. I murdered my ex by stabbing him in the heart over and over again. When I woke, my 'stabbing' arm ached like hell, but the buzz was great!

For someone who's usually extreamly placid I found that quite disturbing...and ssooooooooo therapeutic!

Soz for going off topic, thanks for the memory Twisted Evil

Heh heh, cool, Amethyst!

Here's an idea; would Derren be able to influence people to perform certain actions through the mainpulation of a website, do you think?

*deliberately avoids the word 'forum'*

Heh heh!

Yep, it's all very well hypnotising one chap with a video game, but would he be able to influence loads on a website? On his website, maybe? He could raise a brainwashed fan army to take over the world! Mwahahaha! *ahem* or get them all to do some kind of simple movement or something. Of course, you'd need to get them to film themselves - that would be the difficult bit!
