Whatever the real roots of the phrase, it certainly ain't French for chimpanzee!!!!! |
Has anyone asked a French chimpanzee though?

Yeah, but he just bared his teeth, scratched his balls and loped off screeching into the jungle. So sadly no help there _________________ Giving Derren his portable cheeseholder since 2003 |

Are you sure it wasn't John Lydon that you asked?

When I spoke to Coops, he said that it is french for chimpanzee, but he also admitted to making the word up himself. This contradiction leads me to believe that he made it up and told everyone that it was french for chimpanzee, thus making that the official answer, but literally it isn't. So it's the truth and a lie at the same time... Odd huh?
He also said that it's the explanation of how it came about that he won't tell, and that it's boring.

Reminds me of the whole thing about magicians guarding an empty box. The explanation behind the meaning of the word is probably such an embarrassing climax now it's been built up so much, it's much more mysterious and intriguing to keep it secret. _________________ "I'm a Thaumaturge. Especially for Hedge:
(to the tune of the Rimmer Munchkin Song)
See him on TV, with your mind he'll play,
He's handsome and charming, come what may,
Without him the forum would go astray,
He's Derren, Derren, Derren Brown,
A kind of magician-psychologist-clown,
And if you see him walking round,
On your knees you should get down.
He's Derren, Derren, Derren Brown,
He doesn't wear a golden crown,
Though sometimes he might wear a frown,
He will never put you down.
Master of the No and the Bacherie,
His command of misdirection is uncanny,
How come he's such a genius, don't ask me,
Ask Derren, Derren, Derren Brown,
For he's a man of great renown,
And if you play your cards right, then he just might
Come visit your town. _________________

It does actually say in the programme, in the thank you section at the back
Derren says | Quote: | | Mr.Coops is my loyal nobacherie, which is french for chimpanzee. He does everything in my life which I feel I shouldn't have to think about, given my massive celebrity status |

| Quote: | I was really trying to stay away from this thread.
When nobacherie was mentioned for the first time, it was used to mean chimpanzee, but it's the story of how / why it originated that's vaguely interesting.
I say interesting, but it's actually quite disappointing. Especially if you're going to the effort of castrating Big Dave, or similar. |
