I like the way you think, Ophelia!
I still say, though, that the Voynich Manuscript would be a darn sight easier to decode...

Australia had a big rabbit problem. They were introduced from Europe, but had no natural predators. Due to the rate at which rabbits breed, they became a pest and consumed lots of the vegetation. This only came to an end due to a timely outbreak of myximatosis. _________________ The best thing about being a cynic is that you are nearly always right. I await an announcement from Large David of the Realm that the above is 'the most sensible suggestion so far'.

Sod it, I've had enough with David Beckham - it's time to concentrate on Victoria.
What's a phrase describing Victoria and explaining why David had an affair?
PS- If there is an 's' on the end of 'nobacher', it must indicate a plural, as a word with an 's' in it would make no sense when that 's' was removed... am I babbling?
PPS- Have just discovered that Victoria Beckham has a fashion line called 'DVB'! _________________

LOL!!
'Kay, what about this:
Victoria Station has burger places; 'numskull ninja's' replaces Pickled Peppers; 'Fish 'n' Chips' is a takeaway; erm...carbon in its purest form is a burnt onion ring; the 'enrolling' one is Weight Watchers; 'fave foreign friend' is a good old American burger; Greeane may have been a piggie in a previous life (no offence, Greeane!)...
What does it mean?
No Bacon Cheeseburgers
(or, if you prefer, No Bacon Cheeseburgerie)
There. Solved. _________________

Thanks for the summary P-T but I have to confess, I'm getting more and more lost every time I look in here!!!!!
For example - the "10 clues, 10 letters" clue - yet we are told it's not an acronym.
We are told to "get away from the spelling thing" as we will "only confuse" ourselves.
The Beckham thing - I cannot see the connection with Coops and DVB.
And as for the Welsh fisn 'n' chip shop - HHEEELLLLPPPPP!!! |

If the clues relate to words but it is not an anogram does that mean that it is a code, like for two person telepathy or some mnemonic code?
For example:
Will you say what this is made from? = Metal
Can you tell me what metal this is? = Copper
Or on the carbon front: "No Carbon Required"? Or just "paper", perhaps?

OK, I was thinking about this last night and I reckon I’ve cracked it.
Malaga is not where you think it is.
Where do you look for things if you can’t find them where you'd expect?
Greeane might have been this in a previous life.
Greeane’s a bunnie. While a happy member of the forum now, with her own burro, she might have been an unwanted present or prize before now. What happens to unwanted stuff?
Coopie clue 5 : A man's favourite foreign friend.
A man’s best friend is his dog. A foreign dog could be a Labrador (as in the place), and didn’t Derren have a Labrador (not in the Biblical sense) when he was young, as mentioned in the opera house effect he did? What do dogs like?
Coopie clue 4 : Carbon in its purest form.
Carbon is the basis for life on this planet. If you burn things (purifying them), carbon is left behind. Where do you put burned things?
Coopie clue 3 : Enrolment at a later stage would certainly mean an imminent sacrifice.
Derren said that he could have gone to Oxford (I assume he meant the University, not just a day trip). The terms are Michaelmas, Hilary and Trinity. We have the unholy trinity of Derren, Sir Big Dave and Coops, of course, but it’s also the name of a character in ‘The Matrix’. Maybe nothing is quite what it seems, or perhaps a reference to three things leading to one conclusion. The sacrifice is the revelation of meaning, of course.
Coopie clue 2 : MacMillan in the accounts department would lose his job over it.
I like WSM’s explanation as ‘financial affairs’. What should you never do with financial information, these days?
Coopie Clue 1 : Nothing to do with knobs!
Something that has a door or lid, but not a knob?
SBD 5..............fish and chips are great especially if you happens to be in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.
Ophelia’s takeaway suggestion is great. However, what if it’s something that gets taken away? Alternatively, what eventually happens to a takeaway’s packaging?
SBD 4 Derren, Darren, Duran Duran, Scoops, Big Dean, wrong, wrong WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are three wrongs, but actually four items. Only Derren’s name is relevant and correct, so perhaps there are four other choices, but only one ‘true’ one. However, the apparently true choice might be incorrect, because Derren’s name was originally Darren.
SBD 3.........Peter Piper Picked A Peck Of Numskull Ninja's
As I previously mentioned, there was no ‘b’ in ‘Numskull’. So there’s a missing ‘b’ in this.
SBD CLUE NUMBER 2..................."poor old concorde, he fly no more"
We know this to be ‘explain’. The point of these clues is to explain the answer, so maybe this clue isn’t very helpful.
SBD CLUE 1 ..........."Fascinating"
The answer is something that could keep us involved for ages? It certainly seems to have worked. Perhaps an indication that the solution is an object fascinating for some. Could it be something shiny?
The biggest clue (Coops said) was:
top of the london eye, looking over buck house, the answer is there, nowt' to do with the scouse.
Lots of things are linked to Victoria. There’s David Beckham, the station itself, the place in Australia, the Falls and many other things. _________________ The best thing about being a cynic is that you are nearly always right. The worst thing is that you are nearly always right. |

Repeating the things I’ve distilled:
Maybe nothing is quite what it seems, or perhaps a reference to three things leading to one conclusion.
1. Clues relating to other clues or the word itself
The point of these clues is to explain the answer, so maybe this clue isn’t very helpful.
However, the apparently true choice might be incorrect, because Derren’s name was originally Darren.
So there’s a missing ‘b’ in this.
2. Description of appearance
Something that has a door or lid, but not a knob?
Could it be something shiny?
3. The overall answer
Where do you look for things if you simply can’t find them?
What happens to unwanted stuff?
What do dogs like?
Where do you put burned things?
What should you never do with financial information, these days?
However, what if it’s something that gets taken away? Alternatively, what eventually happens to a takeaway’s packaging?
Three things leading to one conclusion.
Or ‘three to one’.
There’s a missing ‘b’ in this.
Lots of things are linked to Victoria. There’s David Beckham, the station itself, the place in Australia, the Falls and many other things.
Such as a Victoria Cross and you’d be very cross if you chose this. Yes, you’ve guessed it, it’s Dusty Bin!
Nobacherie = Dusty Bin.
Can I go home now, please? _________________ The best thing about being a cynic is that you are nearly always right. The worst thing is that you are nearly always right. |
