Thought it might be time for a summary, Hedgehog style. SBD’s reminded us to concentrate on the ten official clues, so here’s a reminder, with some additional comments. Sorry if I have, in fact, repeated things people have said and had dismissed, but there’s too much to keep track of easily!

SBD CLUE 1 ..........."Fascinating"

We’ve not solved this one. It might be a synonym for the word. Entrancing’s been tried. Could be enthralling, enchanting, enticing, alluring, charming, beguiling, interesting, mesmerising, captivating, interesting, absorbing, intriguing, spellbinding...

On a more cryptic tack, it might be a reference to opera (the group Fascinating Aida), or the word ‘rhythm’.

SBD CLUE NUMBER 2..................."poor old concorde, he fly no more"

Confirmed as ‘explain’.

SBD 3.........Peter Piper Picked A Peck Of Numskull Ninja's

Should be Pickled Peppers, but Numbskull’s misspelled, without a ‘b’. Perhaps we need to add a ‘b’ or ignore the one in ‘nobacherie’. Or Sir Big Dave’s spelling’s let him down.

If the spelling’s nothing to do with it, then is it something like Silly Samurai or Asinine Assassins?

SBD 4 Derren, Darren, Duran Duran, Scoops, Big Dean, wrong, wrong WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was possibly a reference to dropping the ‘ie’ from the end of ‘nobacherie’, or otherwise advising us that the spelling wasn't quite right. Maybe there was a bigger clue in here?

SBD 5..............fish and chips are great especially if you happens to be in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

We never got near this one.

It’s the longest place name in the UK, but the connection of fish and chips to ‘nobacherie’ is lost on me.

Coopie Clue 1 : Nothing to do with knobs!

I assume this was not cryptic and was just to let us know there was no need to think in that area.

Coopie clue 2 : MacMillan in the accounts department would lose his job over it.

We got that this meant ‘affair’, but was there any particular significance to accounts?

Coopie clue 3 : Enrolment at a later stage would certainly mean an imminent sacrifice.

No BA makes sense, but isn’t right. I don’t think anyone’s got close on this.

Coopie clue 4 : Carbon in its purest form.

We’ve tried all sorts for this, none of which has been correct.

While it’s not in a pure form (well, not to me), one thing we haven’t mentioned (I think) is carbon paper. Perhaps a reference to Coops being a replica of Derren in some way? Coops/copy?

Coopie clue 5 : A man's favourite foreign friend.

This might be the cherie bit of the word. Perhaps the ‘nobacher’ word got changed to ‘nobacherie’ because it made the end of the word into ‘cherie’.

Additional SBD clues.

People are getting further and further away from the answer, clue number 2.............top of the london eye, looking over buck house, the answer is there, nowt' to do with the scouse.

This was Victoria station, possibly just Victoria.

Greeane might have been this in a previous life.

We’ve had a few suggestions, stew, fluff, pie, but nothing was right.

Malaga is not where you think it is.

Again, a few different suggestions, but no luck.

AT LAST REAL INSPERATION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

COOPIE becomes COOPS

NOBACHERIE becomes......................................

NOBACHER (possibly NOBACHERS)

I can't quite believe I'm entering into this, but the fish and chips thing might be takeaway. As in, take away some letters. The ie, probably.

Thanks, PT.

I've come up with Fairground Attraction (mixture of 'affairs', grounded airplanes, stations (tracks) and shun=chien=foreign friend)

What do you call those things? Plane chairs or something? That's what a nobacher is - it's a PLAIN CHAIR!!!

Any takers??

Confused

(I've also come up with Undermanager (but that seems to only relate to mining???) - Undersecretary .... Undergraduate (No BA) ... )

I'm sure I did ages ago. Or did I just think it. Or am I just hallucinating? I think the latter.

*Gives up*

I think it was something along the lines of "Carbon in its purest form? Impression? " and mentioned copies somewhere. So it can't be that.

One of us, one of us...

Good thinking, Ophelia. That makes a lot of sense.

Which doesn't guarantee it's right, in this thread.

Ooh, that's good. Don't forget that Llanfairdoodlywhatsit is now really just known as Llanfair. Lots of letters taken of the end there!

Thanks for doing all that, P-T. I'm still really stuck on the Beckhams, seeing as SBD said that he read through my post expecting the answer to be at the end... but who knows, eh?

Did we ever have confirmation from Coops on any of his clues?

It was suggested that 1 could be 'handles', and I think 2 might be 'financial affairs'.

I was holding these in mind because I didn't remember anyone saying they were definitely wrong - have others let them go because we weren't told they were right either?

Maybe they're just too good to be true...

You forgot the most obvious one, NO IRA BEECH. Clearly Derren will only go so far in his quest for plywood - cross-border timber smuggling is out of the question.

I don't think 'handles' is right, because SBD confirmed a few things and that wasn't one of them. Could be that I missed it, though.

I am not sure anyone specifically said 'financial affairs' (or my memory's going again). That sounds very plausible to me.

Again though - plausible means very little here.

I struggle with the idea that people are already getting excited about Star Wars: Episode III', but it's a strange world.

Haha yeah - I think a larger number of people will have an interest in the latter rather than the former! Laughing

Anyway I know how much you're gagging to see General Grievous.

Spasm - I'm stumped with all your fab clues as I haven't a clue about football. On the Beckham front, though - I don't suppose he plays 'back'?? (playback??) And then SBD liked that 'station' - so I wondered about Playback 'tracks'???

OK - I'll slink away now as that probably just adds to the confusion ...

Oh - the other thing I thought of was

No knobs = GRIP!!!

Key grip?

(now how does key fit in with the Beckhams??)

And then there's Victoria station, which led me to the Victoria 'line' - and Bach (a German) - which is an anagram of MANAGER -

Line Manager??

Oh, oh, oh, sorry - me again:

Malaga is not where you think it is.

No it isn't - because it's HERE - or, in Spanish, it's AQUI (a KEY)

Back to KEY GRIP!!!

Who?

No, don't tell me. Seriously, don't tell me.

I'd rather go and see the film and be disappointed without knowing much about it in advance. Smile

Me again - just brainstorming - it might trigger something with someone so we can finally get this solved?

Carbon in its purest form = C
MacMillan in the accounts would lose job over = OO
Peter Piper Picked a Peck = Ps

= Coops??

(clutches wildly at straws again)

I'm working on the basis that all the clues point to the Beckhams in some way, Victoria, affair, Dave (the third wrong in capitals could relate to the third error, i.e. Big Dean - which should be 'Dave'), the Weight Watchers (enrollment at a later stage could mean an imminent sacrifice might indicate enrolling at Weight Watchers and sacrificing the foods you like!) implicating Victoria's weight problems...

Carbon in it's purest form might be a wedding or engagement ring...

But how it all relates to Nobacher/s/ie? The only way I can think is that 'her' is how Scousers say 'hair' - David Beckham is famous for his hairstyles, and Coops has long hair...

*losing plot*

Could it be as simple as 'No Backers?'

I had thought 'handles' somewhere, coz , like on a door, if you don't have a knob, you have a handle. Sorry if this has been said already, I can't face going through this entire thread again!! Not talking

Do the Beckhams have an Australian connection? Victoria is in Australia, as is (another) Malaga, Australia is famous for rabbits (Greeane) and diamonds...

This one is a bit of a long shot but Lewis Morley is an Australian photographer whose most famous work is the naked portrait of Christine Keeler (the MacMillan thing).

Australia? Anyone? No?
