Remembrance Sunday
09/11/2003

How many people observe the two minute silence? More interesting would probably be to find out how many people actually think about what it means?

I stood there for two minutes with tears rolling down my cheeks. We should not have to remember the dead. They should never have had to die in the first place. All these stupid wars that we fight, and for what? How many more people have to die before we realise that war never solves anything? And it is not just the soldiers that suffer. What about the thousands of innocent civilians that just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Why should they die because of someone else's war? No one should ever have to make such a sacrifice.

The whole point of today is to remember the cost of war and never to let it happen again. Well, judging by the mess we made in Iraq, we have not learned anything from the 11th of November. I am not trying to demean the sacrifice that so many made for their countries, far from it. If it weren't for them, the world as we know it would not exist. I am so grateful to them.

But it is a sacrifice that they should never have had to make.
